Tarmo Timm and his 46-year old earthworm Criodrilus Lactuum became film-stars

Tarmo Timm and his 46-year old earthworm  Criodrilus Lactuum  became film-stars when the Gulliver Media were shooting a new documentary at  the Centre for Limnology.

The documentary has the working title of “The Worm Hunters” and focuses on the work of 7 to 8 of the worlds eminent worm scientists. The storyline follows them to vastly different locations (frTarmo Timmom China and the Amazon to Estonia) as they hunt for rare and unusual worm specimens or work in their laboratories collecting and recording new data. Apart from highlighting some quite remarkable worms worldwide there is also an evolutionary adaptation angle as well as behavioural and anatomical information woven into the content. The documentary also reveals the important relationship between earthworms and global soil fertility and the catastrophes that are occurring in places where earthworms have diminished.

Gulliver Media are currently in production with «The Worm Hunters»  for National Geographic Channels US, ZDF/ARTE, National Geographic TV UK and with the help of production investment from Screen Queensland. Writer/Director Randall Wood is on the squirm around the world with his take on nature’s geniuses – the common, but not so ordinary, earthworm.
