WinterAcademy 2011: “Biodiversity – living richness”
Bachelor, Master and PhD students of all Estonian universities are invited to participate in WinterAcademy 2011 — a science conference about biodiversity. The conference takes place on March 4-6, 2011 in Pühajärve Holiday resort.
The conference is full of interesting presentations and discussions. The key-note speakers include Olle Hints from Tallinn University of Technology who will address the issue of the history of biodiversity, the emergence and disappearance of species, Russell Galt from IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) who will talk about connections between biodiversity and human well-being. Best authors of the WinterAcademy student science article competition will present their work during the first day and the winner will be announced.
Participants can select between 11 workshops. They can listen to sounds of nature with Fred Jüssi, learn about tribal people with Fenno-Ugria, analyze why we need to create nature protection areas, etc. On the second evening there will be panel discussion on «What is the value of biodiversity?».
The conference is held in Estonian and there is no official translation. However, for the first time in WinterAcademy, there is one workshop conveyed in English, held by Russell Galt from IUCN and Miguel Gallardo from University of Alicante. The conference participants are glad to help out with translating the rest of the conference to those who need it.
Both conference days will end with an energetic evening program. On Friday evening it is possible to see «Journey to Leena springs» by Riho Västrik and on Saturday evening the popular Estonian band Ska Faktor will perform.
In order to get to the conference the participants need to write a short motivation letter. If you feel that the conference program sounds interesting, grab a pen and write why you would like to take part of it (you are interested in specific presentation, workshop, topic, question, etc).
Participating in WinterAcademy conference gives good opportunity to meet fascinating people from different study fields, broaden your views and spend an inspiring weekend in beautiful South Estonia.
The application deadline is February 18!
