Our Animal Clinic received the first magnetic resonance tomograph
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is based on the magnetic resonance phenomenon, and is used for medical diagnostic imaging since ca. 1977. The MRI equipment to be installed in our Animal Clinic will make it easier to diagnose neurological and joint diseases of animals.
The head of the Animal Clinic said that MRI allows them to study traumas, tumors and joints as well as different spinal cord and nerve root disorders. On many occasions MRI may prove less dangerous than other means of study. MRI studies will be open for cats, dogs and horses.
Semetron Ltd together with the Italian company Esaote suggested the Estonian University of Life Sciences should get the equipment. Kalmer Kalmus said, «The decision was made in favor of the Estonian University of Life Sciences for our university is the only Baltic university that meets international requirements and exceeds the other Baltic universities in the level of teaching veterinary medicine».
During the first year the Clinic can use the equipment free of charge and the clients get the service at a favorable rate. When the MRI equipment gets properly installed clients are expected from other Baltic and Nordic countries as well.
