EMÜ Hosts an International Animal Ethics Course

This week, January 9-13, the course, Animal Ehics – From Laboratory to Wilderness, will take place at the EMÜ. It is meant for all PhD students in biology, environmental research and life sciences, to consider the ethical aspects of using animals and nature as a resource both in general and in their own research.

„The topic is quite unique in the context of Europe. For successful PhD students going on to write their own research projects in the future, the competence to consider ethical perspectives of their work is not only important from a personal moral point of view, but for project funding bodies as well,” David Arney, one of the organizers of the event commented.

The teachers of the course are Helena Röcklinsberg from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Mickey Gjerris from the University of Copenhagen. At the course, organized by the EMÜ Doctoral School, there are 23 participants, some of who are from the EMÜ and Tartu University, but some are also from Portugal, Latvia, Finland and New Zealand.

The course is financially supported by the European Social Fund through the Doctoral School of Life Sciences and Ecology.
