Irish students are practicing in the EMÜ Animal Clinic
This week, the international Leonardo programme brought eight animal management students from Cavan Institute (Ireland) to Tartu, who will be partly doing their internships in the EMÜ Animal Clinic. EMÜ is an official partner of the programme.
The students' accompaning tutor, Catherine McCollum thinks the Animal Clinic will be an interesting opportunity for them. "In the Estonian University of Life Sciences, veterinary sphere is more connected to the science and I think due to this, the Animal Clinic has some very modern equipment the students are not likely to see in many places," she commented.
For two weeks, the eight students are divided between the EMÜ Animal Clinic, Farmax Animal Clinic and Hotel, Estonian Animal Recording Centre and the Shelter for Homeless Animals of Tartu. The interns are switching places, so everybody practices treating animals and also sees how milk is tested in the Estonian Animal Recording Centre.
In addition to ten work days, the students intend to visit Otepää and Elistvere Animal Park. Jessica and Ailbhe who are currently working in the EMÜ Animal Clinic also visited the EMÜ Märja Farm, where at the moment cows are being prepared for the transplantation of genetically modified embryos, regarding the project of the insulin cow.
