EMÜ professor wrote the best college textbook

On March 15 the Estonian Minister of Education and Research, Jaak Aaviksoo awarded the textbook „Veterinary Parasitology“ by EMÜ professor Toivo Järvis with the title of the best Estonian college textbook in 2011.

„The textbook is a complete and thorough work about the field of veterinary parasitology,“ Toivo Järvis, a professor in the EMÜ Department of Infectious Diseases in the Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences commented. „I worked on „Veterinary Parasitology“ by Jüri Parre, published in 1985, clearly very expired in a scientific point of view – I modernised the concept and added some parts, for example the taxonomy and terminology of parasitology. A new book was badly needed,“ he noted.

During the last few decades, veterinary parasitology has gone through a rapid evolution, which the book will elaborate on. The book is used by the III and IV year veterinary students, in the subject of „Parasitology and Invasive Diseases“, but it is also valuable to all practicing veterinarians, people in the field of animal management, medical doctors, biologists and specialists of other fields.

The work consists of six parts in the form of separate books, the total number of pages is 756. The book was published by the Tartu University Publishing and it was funded by the national programme „Compilation and Publishing of Estonian Language College Textbooks 2008-2012“.
