EMÜ professor named president of a professional organization

At ECLAS (European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools) conference which took place on September 19 to 22 in Warsaw, our landscape architecture professor Simon Bell took over the post of the president. The term is three years.

The goals of the Council that was established in 1991 include developing and fostering contacts and dialogue between landscape architecture scholars in Europe. According to Simon Bell, his task as the president will be to guide ECLAS through a period of transition, as a long running networking project comes to an end and new funding streams have to be secured. „I want to improve the services offered to the member schools in supporting the discipline, as well as to develop and make more frequent the flagship "Journal of Landcape Architecture,“ said Simon Bell.

Simon Bell started off at Estonian University of Life Sciences in 2005 as docent, and in 2009 he became the head of Department of Landscape Architecture. Earlier he has pointed out the lack of awareness in Estonia of what landscape architects can offer to society, but things have moved on and he is positive that as the president of the organization he will be able to shed even more light on what is going on at the Estonian landscape architecture scene and that the discipline is taken seriously here.
