A new book dives into the world of biopolymers
Rajeev Bhat, Ülle Jaakma and Toomas Tiirats
Rajeev Bhat (Professor, ERA-Chair in VALORTECH) presented his new book 'Biopolymers: Recent Updates, Challenges and Opportunities' (Series ISSN 2364-1878 & DOI https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-98392-5) to Ülle Jaakma (Vice-Rector for Research) and Toomas Tiirats (Director, Institute of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Sciences), Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tartu on 15th September 2022. The book is published by Springer Nature publisher (Switzerland).
After receiving the first copy of the book, Ülle Jaakma expressed her immense contentment and acknowledged Rajeev for his exceptional contributions to the University and thereby to the entire scientific community who are connected with works related to biopolymers. She emphasized that this book on 'Biopolymers' will be a valuable resource material for scientists, engineers, industrialists, and for University students. Toomas Tiirats acknowledged the continued contributions of Rajeev to the Institute and to the University. He indicated that research on biopolymers is the need of the hour, especially considering the fact that biopolymers are eco-friendly and can be representative of carbon emission solutions (green solutions).
Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev highlighted that the book stresses on a wide range of sustainability challenges and opportunities in biopolymers-based research. He acknowledged the contributions of co-editors and the publisher for their efforts in getting this book published meticulously. He revealed that various types of biopolymers have been identified for their potential applications, thus benefitting consumers and thereby society. Further, Rajeev indicated that a broad range of topics related to the application of biopolymers in food, fisheries, pharmaceuticals, bio-medicals, cosmetics, electronics, automobiles, bio-plastics production, waste-water treatment, and the leather industries are covered in the book. The book also provides a detailed overview of the environmental, regulatory and legislative issues concerning the usage of biopolymers. This book is published under the topics of 'Green Chemistry & Biomaterials' within the Springer Series on 'Polymers and Composite Materials.'
