The Estonian University of Life Sciences rose to an unprecedented 37th place in this year's subject ranking by international consulting company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) among universities offering agriculture and forestry programmes. It is the highest position an Estonian higher education institution has got in international rankings so far.

Rector of Estonian University of Life Sciences Ülle Jaakma commented that agriculture and forestry are beyond doubt front-line sciences in adapting to climate change and ensuring food security. "Thirty-seventh place in the ranking in this field shows our University has excellent academic reputation, good prestige among employers, high quality of research and wide scope of international cooperation. It is a great recognition and encouragement for entire university family to continue looking for sustainable solutions for the future," said Ülle Jaakma.

Wageningen University from the Netherlands is ranked as number one university by subjects of agriculture and forestry, the Swedish University of Agriculture (SLU) from Uppsala, a good partner of Estonian University of Life Sciences, is number three. In the same ranking, the flagship higher education institution of our Northern neighbours, the University of Helsinki, is only a step ahead of Estonian University of Life Sciences, sharing the 34th position with a couple of other universities.

Quacquarelli Symonds that compiles one of the most well-known global rankings of universities in the world, QS World University Rankings, started ranking universities by subjects in 2011. This year, more than 1,500 universities in 54 subject groups were evaluated and the results were announced on 22 March 2023.

Last year, Estonian University of Life Sciences ranked 65th in the world among universities offering agriculture and forestry programmes.
