Estonian University of Life Sciences contributes to the capital of culture program with exciting events
City of Tartu, together with Southern Estonia, is the European Capital of Culture 2024, with the Artistic Concept „Arts of Survival“. The Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU) is also represented in the Capital of Culture program with several events.
One of the major events of the Tartu 2024 program is the 69th Ploughing World Cup, which will take place on 16-17 in August in Tartu and Rõhu. The EMU Institute of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences makes a big contribution to the organization of the Ploughing World Cup.
Our landscape architecture students observe people spending time in the parks in the center of Tartu to find out how our parks are used and what is done in them. The observations are related to the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 project Curated Biodiversity. Based on the results of the study, the usage load of the parks is assessed and new activities are planned to transform the parks into a more attractive place to spend time for city dwellers.
The "Growing with your own food" project of the EMU Organic Center is part of the main program of Tartu 2024. Several events related to soil and food growing are planned, for example, a lecture on the ABC of planting vegetable seeds will be held on February 15, and Big Seed Day will be held on April 14. Growing food is the art of survival!
The chair of landscape architecture will organize the international conference LE:NOTRE Landscape Forum on June 24, as well as several experiential events in nature.
In addition, the Institute of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is a co-organizer of the Nature Festival.
