On April 1st, a significant change took place in the management of the dormitories at the Estonian University of Life Sciences – the student housing operations and development were handed over to the university's subsidiary company, OÜ Torni Hostel. The aim of this change is to make the management of the dormitories more efficient, enabling the renovation of existing buildings and improving the well-being of residents.

The goal of the Estonian University of Life Sciences' subsidiary, OÜ Torni Hostel, is to create a modern living environment in the dormitories that is user and environmentally friendly, providing comprehensive support and empowerment to all students, friends, and visitors of the university.

Along with administrative changes, there will be changes in operational procedures and forms. As part of the transfer of operations, the university will transfer all lease agreements with students to OÜ Torni Hostel. All further communication and transactions will be directly with the hostel. Within approximately a month, there are plans to transition to user-friendly rental management software to provide better service to tenants.

In the future, dormitory life will be conducted under the name "Rohemu Campus" (ROH - derived from "roheline" meaning green, EMU - Estonian University of Life Sciences, CAMPUS - university-owned land and buildings). The concept of Rohemu Campus stems from the philosophy of the EMU Green University and is based on its values, helping to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable management practices more broadly.

Consequently, the goal is to offer students new opportunities at Rohemu Campus. Collaborations have already begun with Foodsharing Tartu volunteers for food rescue campaigns, where food rescued from store shelves on the same day will be placed in the fridge in the Torn lobby on Wednesday evenings initially, but eventually also on Mondays and Fridays at 10:30 PM, as its sell-by date approaches. The aim is to rescue perfectly edible food from ending up in the trash and thus contribute to making the world a better place. The food is free for all Betton and Torn residents. All residents can also leave their food in the fridge to share with other residents.

Together with diligent EMU landscape architecture students, the park area between the dormitories is being developed, where soon one can enjoy the blossoming of spring, the embrace of nature, and the warmth of the sun.

The current operations of OÜ Torni Hostel as a small accommodation facility will also undergo a refresh, and from now on, will operate under the brand name Rohe Hostel, along with a soon-to-be-launched new website and booking system. The goal is to provide environmentally friendly and sustainable accommodation services in Tartu – along with first-class service and friendliness.
