President’s Cultural Foundation announces competition for Young Scientist Award

The amount for the Young Scientist Award of the President of the Republic’s Cultural Foundation is 75,000 EEK. The award is intended for young Estonian scientists under the age of 35 years, who have a doctoral degree and are conducting research at an Estonian or foreign university.

Tanel-Taavi Bulitko got a special prize at the Farmer of the Year competition

Eesti Maaülikool awarded Tanel-Taavi Bulitko, Chairman of the Animal Breeders´ Association of Estoniaa special prize at the Farmer of the Year competition, organized by the Maaleht and the Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce.

Erki Rist – the 7th best in limbing in the world

Erki Rist, a 2-nd year student of forest industry,  ranked the 15thamong the juniors at  the 29thWorld Logging Championship in Croatia.  Competitions were held in chain fitting, precision bucking, bucking by combined cuts, tree felling and limbing. Tarmo Timm and his 46-year old earthworm  Criodrilus Lactuum  became film-stars when the Gulliver Media were shooting a new documentary at  the Centre for Limnology. 

Simulation of stand development

A course on the simulation of stand development (2 ECTS) will start on October 18. During four days students will listen to lectures  and do exercises under the supervision of  Risto Ojansuu and Jari Hynynen from the Forest Institute in Finland.  The course will end with a written test.

On October  6 2010 Estonian Academic Agricultural Society will celebrate its 90thbirthday with an annual conference «90 years from the foundation  of the Estonian Academic Agricultural Society» in the Old Main Building of the EMU (Kreutzwaldi 64).

3D reconstruction by serial sectioning of histological samples

Prof. Rustem Uzbekov from the Laboratory of Cell Biology (Electron Microscopy), University of Tours, France will be teaching this technique 24-26th November 2010. It is a doctoral course funded by our Graduate School of Biomedicine and Biotechnology. Though a doctoral course interested specialists can also be accepted.
